History of the Statesboro Alumni Chapter

Founded April 10, 1941

On April 10, 1941—exactly 86 years after the founding of Sigma Chi—the Statesboro Alumni Chapter was officially chartered. This milestone was made possible through the dedication of our founding brothers, all proud undergraduates from two distinguished chapters: the Delta Chapter at the University of Georgia and the Beta Chi Chapter at Emory University.
The founding members of the Statesboro Alumni Chapter were:

  • Inman M. Foy – Delta 1917
  • J. D. Foy – Delta 1922
  • Frank Simmons - Delta 1932
  • W. Homer Simmons - Delta 1932
  • J.E. Aiken - Delta 1929
  • R.L Cone Jr. - Delta 1932
  • C. A. Sorrier – Delta 1932
  • Waldo E. Floyd, M.D. – Delta 1922
  • J.D. Blitch – Delta 1926
  • J.E. McCroan - Beta Chi 1931
  • J.J. Jenkins – Beta Chi 1931
  • John F. Brannen - Delta 1922
  • John Mooney Jr. – Beta Chi 1930
  • R.J.H. DeLoach – Delta 1898
  • Harry S. Aiken – Delta 1927
  • Edwin Donehoo – Delta 1930

The 1941 Charter appears below. The Charter remains in the possession of the Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter.

The Establishment of the Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter Scholarship

The Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter Scholarship was established in 1998 by members of the Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni chapter.

The scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are initiated members of the Eta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. The students must be rising juniors, pursuing any major while maintaining full-time enrollment. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better and must maintain grades throughout the award period. Applicants must be of high moral character and be considered leaders among their peers. Fraternity service and campus involvement are factors. Selection is made without regard to age, race, area of residency, marital status, or religious preference. If all factors are considered equal, financial need is the deciding factor.
